Famous Apex Legends game publisher Electronic Arts(EA) is laying off 6% of employees under a shocking blog post. Have a look at what will happen to all the EA's laid-off employees.

Under a shocking update of layoffs, EA a renowned game publishing company popular for games like Apex Legends, The Sims Series, FIFA series & more, is now removing 6% of its workforce; all at once.

Last year EA had about 13,000 employees which suggest around 780 jobs will be laid off in EA this year after this unfortunate update. Electronic Art’s CEO Andrew Wilson informed employees about this over a blog post that stated the company is driving towards a greater focus across its portfolio leading to the dismissal of 6% of its employees.

Though, it might not come as a shocker for many because last month EA laid off around 200 Apex Legends testers over a controversial Zoom call, which created many headlines in the media as well.

Wilson stated-

“We are moving away from projects that do not contribute to our strategy, reviewing our real estate footprint, and restructuring some of our teams” He also added “These decisions are expected to impact approximately 6 % of our company’s workforce. This is the most difficult part, and we are working through the process with the utmost care and respect,”

What Will Happen to Laid-Off Employees?

Electronic Arts company is also providing new opportunities for impacted employees. This will manifest an easy transition of workers from one project to another. In fact, it is also expected of employees to continue through early next fiscal year without any conspicuous struggle.

As Wilson mentioned in the blog post-

“...Where that’s not possible, we are providing severance pay and additional benefits such as health care and career transition services. Communicating these decisions began earlier this quarter and we expect them to continue through early next fiscal year,”

On the contrary, some of EA’s online games are gaining great momentum as the company continues to deliver high-quality games and amazing content.

EA’s CEO Andrew Wilson said-

“EA SPORTS FIFA 23 is pacing to be the biggest title in franchise history. Apex Legends performance is strong on the heels of a memorable 4th-anniversary event, and The Sims is fuelling imagination and engagement across its passionate community,”

Based on the information, EA’s filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), will approximately lead to $170 million to $200 million in charges related to the layoffs and restructuring. Yet the employees will suffer a great loss considering major companies are at the end of their fiscal year where hirings become scarce & struggling. Let’s see how employees react to this update.
